Don’t be fooled by their size as Chia seeds swell by up to 12 times their original size when soaked in water. This is caused by the soluble fibre and mucilage found in chia seeds which helps to slow digestion and promotes a feeling of fullness.
How to feed Chia seeds for dogs:
Either sprinkle dry onto wed food, or a quick pre-soak for 10 mins if feeding dry food.

Small – 5-10kg Cocker Spaniel, Beagle 7g
Medium – 15-20kg Springer Spaniel, Border Collie 10g
Large – 30-50kg Rottweiler, Labrador, Boxer 20g
Giant – >50kg Great Dane, Mastiff, Newfoundland 30g
Eating too much fibre in general can cause loose stools so start off slowly and don’t over-feed. Chia seeds can also interact with some medications, causing blood sugar and blood pressure levels to drop too low, so check with your vet if your dog is on any medication.
